The Community Action Partnership (CAP) of Lancaster is seeking a full time Domestic Violence Counselor to provide empowerment counseling to adult victims of domestic violence. To perform all job functions in a manner that is trauma-informed, culturally competent, and consistent with DVSLC mission, values, philosophy and policies provide empowerment counseling to adult victims of domestic violence.   

Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling/advocacy for up to eight resident clients
  • Conduct introductory meeting with resident clients within 24 business hours of coming into shelter and assist client to create a housing plan within 7 days
  • Meet with client weekly or as-needed to provide counseling and case management
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling/advocacy for caseload of up to five community counseling clients
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate trauma-informed and/or psychoeducational support groups. Facilitate House Meetings.Develop Service plans with clients
  • Complete intakes, exits, and answer hotline as needed. Ensure all information gathered at these times is accurate and complete using Case Worthy
  • Provide outreach services to target populations in the community and advocate for domestic violence victims with other agencies and in the community
  • Provide supervision of agency interns
  • Assist Counseling Coordinator in training of DVS volunteers, interns and new staff
  •  Complete a minimum of 10 hours of Continuing DV Education each fiscal year
  •  Provide On-Call and Holiday Coverage per DVS policies

 

Skills and Experience

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • Requires Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus
  • At least 2 years working in a social service agency required. Experience working with victims of domestic violence preferred
  • Must be sensitive to the challenges of domestic violence survivors, and have the ability and desire to work with people of different ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Must complete mandatory 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training within six months of employment
  • Child Abuse, FBI, and PA Criminal Background clearances required prior to start of employment
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
