Why Support the Community Action Program of Lancaster County?
With so many needy and deserving groups asking for financial support today, why should you give to the Community Action Program of Lancaster County? When considering who to support in the local community consider these facts*:
- In 2008 CAP of Lancaster County serviced the needs of over 30,000 individuals making the agency the lead provider and authority on self sufficiency programming in the area
- Nearly 46,714 people or 9.2% of Lancaster County's population are at or below the poverty level
- Nearly 16,459 of Lancaster County's children or 13.3% overall live at or below the poverty level
- Almost 5,000 senior citizens in Lancaster or 7% of all seniors in the County live in poverty

In order to improve the quality of life for everyone living in Lancaster County, CAP of Lancaster County provides the following services:
- A child care center that has attained the Keystone 4 Stars Rating, which the highest quality is rating possible. This quality of child care is provided to the community at a financial loss to the agency each year.
- Domestic Violence Services provided service to 1,641 adult and 153 children who were victims (regardless of their socio-economic background) of domestic violence in 2007-2008. Projections show between 7,000 -10,000 abuse cases take place in Lancaster County annually.
- CAP of Lancaster County's food distribution program provides food to 34 pantries and 8 congregate feeding sites to serve 20,000 people in 2007-2008
- Outreach services provided emergency rental, energy, and food assistance to 36,515 family members in 2007-2008
- Women Infants & Children supplied nutrition counseling and food vouchers to nearly 10,000 clients in 2007-2008
- CAP of Lancaster County's Head Start program promoted school readiness to 930 low-income children by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development
