Our Mission:

"The Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Program is committed to educating
low income Pennsylvanians about healthful food choices and encouraging
individuals to adopt positive, sustainable nutrition related behaviors..."

Supported by Food and Nutrition Service, US Department of Agriculture

The CAP Nutrition Education Program offers the following services:

Food Pantry Visits:

This includes food demonstrations and food tasting at food pantry sites using ingredients available at most food pantries.  The program also provides an informational newsletter for distribution in the bags of food.

Six Week Series:

This series includes one or all of the following services:

One on one consultations
Home Visits
Supermarket or Farmer's Market Tours

Topics include smart shopping, food safety, meal planning, grocery money budgeting, cooking instruction and information on how to use food stamps and WIC checks more efficiently.

Food Demonstrations:

The NEP will come to your program site or organization meeting and give a presentation to you and your members or customers.  This presentation is based upon sound nutritional values and provides a great opportunity to try new foods that are accessible but not commonly eaten.

Kids Cafes and After School Programs:

The NEP provides after school activities to children who are looking for fun and nutritious activities.  We provide food and nutrition related games, cooking sessions, food tasting sessions, and nutrition related life skills that are important to learn at an early age.

The program currently works with various in-school youth programs and teen parent programs at local school districts.

Nutrition Education Seminars:

Nutrition related seminars can be held at your site or ours.  The seminars contain related life skills and information.  A few examples of seminars are:

Food Safety
Grocery Planning
Meal Planning
Etiquette
Comparison of costs and nutrients of commonly eaten foods - at home or while you're out.
