The Community Action Program (CAP) of Lancaster County is seeking a full-time, Customer Service Specialist to directly support the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program (WIC).  In addition to providing general office support, the successful candidate provide direct customer support on multiple platforms including reception, scheduling and income determination to eligible women, infants and children in various social and economic groups. 


Education, Experience & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Bilingual/Spanish preferred
  • Prior experience working in WIC programming, preferred
  • Ability to relate well in a diverse environment with clients facing critical challenges
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail, deadlines, and efficient telephone etiquette  
  • Competent computer skills and comfort level with general office equipment (i.e. fax machine, copier). 

Skills and Experience

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Answer incoming and outgoing  calls using a multi-line phone system and respond to callers requests
    • Maintain daily roster of appointments and appointment scheduling and communicate with the Clinic Supervisor regarding appointment availability and clinic scheduling
    • Communicate verbally and in writing with all callers.  Mail reminder letters and other paperwork needed for appointment, and set auto-dialer daily as needed
    • Communicate with the WIC Director/Supervisor when scheduling/rescheduling a hearing impaired client that will need an interpreter
    • Check and respond to Outlook messages frequently throughout the day
    • Inform co-workers of incoming calls, or take messages
    • Accurately print checks and verify that information is correct prior to providing checks to customer
    • Create family ID numbers for Healthy Beginnings Plus (HBP) referrals and schedule appointments or document information and file forms in the designated HBP cabinet
    • Schedule appointments
    • Insure the confidentiality of customer records and CAP/WIC information
